Carrisa Natal Plum

A South African shrub used as a hedge or free standing shrub because of its interesting formed branches and almost mirror like shiny deep-green leaves, off set by white and pinkish fragrant flowers with the scent of jasmine and gardenia, the shrub bears a 2″ egg shaped red fruit the eludes a white astringent latex unless fully ripe, the fruits can be eaten out of hand as is quite good with a taste similar of sweet/ tart cranberries, also excellent for making preserves. The shrub is quite salt tolerant and once establish is very drought tolerant and can thrive almost any where. Zone 8 to 11
