Purple Sugar Cane ‘Violacea’ (Saccharum officinarum)
November 12, 2025Hawaiian Alula ‘Vulcan Palm’ (Brighamia insignis)
$42.00
A true Hawaiian native plant from Kaua’i and one of the rarest plants in the world… at least in the wild. The Alula is extinct in the wild. Alula lives on thanks to many growers and botanic gardens like Limahuli Gardens and McBride Gardens on Kaua’i along with partners on the mainland such as the San Diego Botanic Garden and the San Diego Zoo. The incredible specimen has many names in its native Hawaii: alula, haha, olulu, and pu aupaka. It is also affectionately known as ‘cabbage on a stick’. It has a large spray of bright green glossy leaves that sit atop a bulging succulent-like stalk. The flowers are fragrant 2 inch blooms. Its a fun and unique addition to any Hawaiian collection.
3 inch pot, seed grown.
