Native to the West Indies, Mexico to Panama, fast growing twining vine or shrub that produces wisteria like erect to drooping axillary long racemes of star like purplish blue flowers with 5 narrow petals like calyx lobes which persist long after the darker corollas drop. Oblong dark green leaves are rough above hence the name sand paper vine. This hybrid has larger flowers than the regular Petrea Volublis. Train as espalier, pergolas, trellises or on fences.  Stunning!
